Nationwide Platforms, the UK’s leading provider of powered access for working at height, recently supplied four machines to help construct a Guinness World Record breaking tower

Using ‘KAPLA’ natural pine blocks, innovative artist KaplaBen built a wooden model tower to a height of 27.46m in the Olympia London, beating his previous record set five days before of 25.46m, and smashing the original world record of 18.76m.

KaplaBen’s impressive, unique approach to creating beautiful wooden structures results in intricately complex works of art that are, astonishingly, entirely free-standing. The added challenge of devising an effective and stunning domino collapse brings an element of excitement and problem-solving to his work.

The machines supplied by Nationwide Platforms were indispensable to the build project. The access company provided two HL27 hybrid scissor lifts to assist the lower-level build stages. For the more difficult later stages of the project, Nationwide Platforms had two of its HR28 hybrid boom lifts available on site. The articulating movement of these boom lifts, with their 28m working height and combined 6m outreach, enabled the arm to move closer to the pinnacle of the tower as it got taller and taller, making the machines vital for the meticulous placement of the final few blocks.

Nationwide Platforms’ involvement in the project is testament to its ability to provide tailored access solutions to a variety of build projects, no matter how niche or technically complex they may be.

Richard Juszt, Managing Director at Juszt Captial LTD, who pulled the project together said, “In need of specialist equipment for this very unusual and unique project, we found ourselves in communications with Samantha Dawes of Nationwide Platforms. With her experience, ‘can-do’ approach, unflappable attitude, and ongoing advice throughout the duration of the project, we honed-in, tweaked, and settled on the lifts needed. “We were so pleased to have found a company that we could rely on to find ‘real-time’ solutions to obstacles that come our way. Thank you, Nationwide Platforms for being part of this adventure!”

Sam Dawes, Business Development Manager for Nationwide Platforms said “It was a great opportunity for us to bring our expertise to a particularly dexterous task, and what an incredible achievement! As the UK’s market leader in powered access, with the largest UK fleet, we have the operational capacity, experience and expertise to fully satisfy the requirements of challenging projects such as this one.

“We’re delighted to have been able to support KaplaBen in this world-record-breaking attempt and can’t wait to see what he turns his hand to next.”
