How do spider lifts work?

Spider lifts are mounted caterpillar type crawler tracks that distribute the weight to ensure low ground pressure with fold-down outriggers that stabilise the equipment allowing you to safely reach the maximum height, both indoor and outdoor.

When to use spider lifts?

Spider lifts are an incredibly versatile access platform, being able to work on both fragile floors and rough terrain. Hiring a spider lift means you can gain access to restricted areas that traditional cherry pickers can’t, due to their ability to spread their weight over a wide area.

The compact design of a spider lift gives a slim profile that means they can work in tight areas. Their dimensions allow them to enter buildings with narrow access where other forms of access equipment would struggle. Spider lifts can also be turned in a small area and have a 360° rotation, adding even further flexibility.

The light weight, compact size and manoeuvrability of spider lifts make them perfect for working on indoor tasks on fragile flooring that would not support heavier machines. And being fitted with non-marking tyres they do not leave marks on indoor surfaces either.

A spider lift’s tracks allows them to travel over soft ground and rough terrain making them ideal for outdoor projects too.

Spider lifts are also easily transportable due to their size and weight meaning they can be loaded on trailers or small trucks.

We have over 130 spider lifts available to hire on either operated or self-operated basis and are suitable for a variety of applications including facilities management and retail.

Our tracked spider lift models are an effective powered access solution for both indoor and outdoor applications, with working heights available up to 31m making them an excellent choice for lifting over obstacles. A tracked spider lift can be deployed quickly, with the outriggers activated with the pressing of one button.

Lithium battery spider lifts add even more flexibility, freeing the machine to work without the plug-in cables of traditional electric models. This increases manoeuvrability and reduces health and safety trip hazards. Bi-Fuel options are also available, combining a small diesel engine with a battery motor that the spider lift can operate on alone reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The diesel engine also recharges the battery meaning a mains power source is not needed.

Spider Lift Training

The IPAF 1b Static Boom course trains operators to set up and operate a static boom, such as a spider boom lift.

Our combined IPAF OP: Mobile Vertical/Mobile Boom/Static Boom 3A 3B 1B programme includes tracked boom lifts, static and mobile boom lifts.
