(Not So) Divine Intervention

St. Ignatius's Church in Hendon, Sunderland is a handsome Grade II listed nineteenth century church in the Early English style. The fine Burlison & Grylls stained glass windows needed inspecting recently, and the job of doing this was given to Christopher Downs - Chartered Architect. On the recommendation of Historic Property Restorations, he approached Simon Ward of Nationwide Access with a view to getting the best machine for doing the job.

Simon recommended a JLG 40, as this is a narrow machine (only 1.5m wide) that could get through the restricted doorways. With an articulated boom, and an outreach of 6.25m, the job was able to be completed quickly and efficiently with no danger of harming this fine, old building.

Simon explained: "This was a very challenging job even with a very narrow machine, doorways had to be altered, and ramps had to be constructed to overcome several sets of steps. The job ran as planned, and we expect that it will be the first of many such projects. Other benefits of using a powered access machine was that our customer did not have to use scaffolding saving both time and money, and the overall beauty of the church was not obscured from visitors and worshippers".
