Nationwide Access, the UK's largest provider of powered access equipment, is already into the festive spirit. The company has provided a fleet of five powered access machines to Leeds Lights, a division of Leeds City Council, to assist with the installation of the Christmas illuminations across the greater Leeds area.
Leeds Lights have hired four, 14m metre and one, 15 metre 4x4 King Truck Mounts. The smaller machines were chosen as their narrow chassis make them ideal for working in the city centre. They can be easily manoeuvred through the streets with the minimum disruption to traffic, pedestrians and street furniture. The larger 15 metre 4 x 4 machine is being used for erecting Christmas trees on roundabouts and in public parks where access is needed across grassed areas.
The fleet is on hire for five months to allow for the different deadlines for the fitting of lights and decorations in different parts of the city. As well as helping install the lights in the main city centre, the machines are being used for smaller out of town displays in places such as Otley and Killingbeck.
Barry Dudley, assistant manager at Leeds Lights, said: "There is no other way we could carry out these installations without powered access machines. We have to work in the streets and around lampposts and using Nationwide's truck mounts is quick and easy and means we don't disturb the retailers or shoppers.
"We have hired these machines for the last four years so we know how to use them and have built up a good relationship with the team at Nationwide Access. One of the major benefits in terms of convenience is same day delivery. This is a major saving in itself."
