SKYLIFT SAVES HISTORIC SCHOOLHOUSE
When the historic two-storey Victorian school house at the Old School, Settle, came under threat from dangerous loose branches, tree surgeons from Treetops Forestry needed a specialist piece of equipment to make the area safe. A ferocious storm had damaged the trees overhanging the building and worried local residents could hear ominous creaking sounds from the branches above.

After assessing the precarious state of the trees, Jonathan Strange from Treetops Forestry called in powered access experts Nationwide Access to recommend the safest method of accessing the job. A 35 metre Bronto Skylift truck mounted telescopic platform otherwise known as a cherry picker was advised due to its 23.80m outreach and ability to set up in a confined area. Using powered access allows the tree surgeon to work on the unstable tree from a platform without the need to physically climb the tree.

Tree surgeon Jonathan Strange said: "One very heavy branch had come completely adrift and was stuck in the fork of an adjoining tree. The whole thing was very unstable. Using this machine was the only way we could reach out over the roof of the building and dismantle the trees safely. The Nationwide Access machine was the perfect choice."

Powered access equipment is becoming increasingly popular in the arboricultural and forestry industry as the machines enable quick and safe working and can cope with any terrain. Outreach on some machines reaches 34.5m, ensuring that most jobs can be accessed safely and efficiently.
