Boom lifts from powered access specialists Nationwide helped to put three new buildings in the shade when they were used by contractors to install sun shielding at a business park near Reading.

Four 62 DX articulating booms were hired by commercial solar control system suppliers and installers Levolux and a fifth boom was used by main contractors Carillion for work on the construction of the new buildings at the Arlington Business Park.

With a working height of 20.9m and a horizontal outreach of 10.7m, the boom lifts could easily reach all areas of the three-storey buildings, and their four-wheel-drive capability helped contractors to cope with difficult ground conditions following prolonged rain.

The 62 DX articulating boom takes only 75 seconds to reach its full height and has a platform capacity of 227 kg. Supplied through Nationwide¹s London West, Gatwick and Basingstoke depots, the booms were new to the company¹s
fleet of 5,400 rental units.

Levolux installed solar shading panels, a maintenance walkway and support structures to the western and southern elevations of all floors of the buildings and around the full perimeter at eaves level
