IPAF MEWP Instructor Assessment Programme

This programme is designed for Managers and Supervisors who have a responsibility for working at heights within their organisation with the aim of training and assessing an instructor to understand the working of the IPAF training programme.

Course length: 5 days

Course objective

To train and assess an instructor to understand the working of the IPAF training programme and assess their knowledge on both the machines and their ability to convey information to candidates. The successful completion of which when combined with evidence listed in 2.1.2 would lead to an Instructor Licence.

Course content

Day 1
• MEWPs for Managers Course
Day 2
Introduction Initial Assessment:
• Theory test
• Test of candidates ability on the machine
• IPAF online systems and paperwork
Day 3
IPAF courses:
• Overview of IPAF courses available
• Introduction to the IPAF Operator Course
• IPAF operator practical/testing procedures
- Machines
• Preparation for presentation
• Operator practical demonstration & testing (assessed)
Day 4
IPAF courses continued:
• Introduction to the IPAF Demonstrator Course
• IPAF demonstrator testing procedures - machines
• Individual 30 minute presentations by candidate on chosen MEWP subject (assessed)
Day 5
Final assessment:
• Assessment on presentational and practical training & assessment skills by two senior instructors

Key learning objectives

By the end of the course the instructor will:
• Have approved their ability to instruct on set categories of equipment
• Have a good understanding of the IPAF Operator Course
• Have a good understanding of the IPAF Operator Practical Testing Procedure
• Have proved their ability to present a theory presentation
• Have a good understanding of the IPAF demonstrator course
• Have a good understanding of the IPAF demonstrator practical testing procedure

Who should attend

This programme is designed for Managers and Supervisors who have a responsibility for working at heights within their organisation. The methods involve a high proportion of discussion and group participation, supplemented with video and classroom based tutorials, as well as practical exercises.

• All applicants must have satisfactorily completed a recognised operators course
• IPAF operator PAL card held for 6 months minimum
• IPAF demonstartor PAL card held for 3 months minimum.
• Evidence of acceptable instructional techniques training - (5 days minimum)
