IPAF MEWP Demonstrator Training

The IPAF Demonstrator Training is for any IPAF Operator who is required to handover and familiarise the machine to customer or work colleagues. The course will instruct an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of push around vertical platforms.

Course length: 1-3 days depending on categories

Course objective

To instruct an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of push around vertical platforms and to obtain an IPAF MEWP Operator Licence.

Course content

• Safe operation and limitations of use. Note: Training may be undertaken on different machine types depending on the availability of sufficient space.
• Introduction to MEWPs
- Awareness of different types of MEWPs
• Introduction to the machine
- Walk around and familiarisation with MEWP
• Major components
- Identification of each component and its function
• Pre-use checks and inspection
- Carry out all the required checks/inspections on the following items:- tyres, main frame, turntable, fluid levels, hoses, electrical cables, booms, cage, brakes, steering, lights, travel, controls (lower/upper), pins/retaining bolts and decals

Key learning objectives

At the end of the course the trainee will be able to carry out the required tasks involved in the role of demonstrator which is to familiarise operators with their responsibilities and demonstrate pre-operational and safe operating procedure and the limitations of MEWPs.

Who should attend

Any IPAF operator who is required to handover and familiarise the machine to customers or work colleagues. The course consists of classroom based tutorials, demonstrations, outside practical and test.

The demonstrator should know:
• The pre-use checks and daily maintenance to be carried out prior to commencing work
• The correct and safe method of operating the specific machine
• The correct emergency procedures, capacities and limitations to enable safe operation
• Selection and use of fall protection equipment covering as a minimum anchorage points in platforms, harness standards, explanation of fall arrest, lanyard types, use and correct fitting, rescue procedures, current recommendations [HS(G)150, HSE & IPAF]
