Nationwide Platforms has helped the press seize their story of the day after giving photographers access to the ideal height to see Virgin owner Richard Branson make a star appearance for the launch of Virgin Money in Newcastle.

The powered access leaders provided a scissor lift from its Durham depot which enabled reporters to capture the entrepreneur as he posed in a Newcastle United shirt from a first floor window at the former headquarters of Northern Rock.

The access platform also allowed journalists to get the perfect shot of tycoon Branson meeting Newcastle United stars, whose club is sponsored by the banking brand.

The hiring of the machine was organised by Durham Depot Manager Gary Stephenson, who was called on by press officers from Virgin looking for a solution to make their PR stunt complete.

Speaking after the event, Gary said: “When we’re providing equipment for these kinds of photo-opportunities there are a number of things to bear in mind, not just the height of the machine, but also the number of journalists who will be able to safely fit onto the basket of the scissor lift.

“With the UK’s largest and most diverse fleet of access equipment for hire, we were able to deliver the ideal machine and react well in advance to the needs of our customer as their requirements became clear.

“In the end we provided a large diesel machine which would have been capable of holding at least six photographers at once. We also provided a machine operator trained to the highest industry standards to make sure the management and use of the equipment was completely taken care of, allowing the reporters to focus entirely on their task at hand.”
