Many of the country's largest shopping centres have been getting into the festive spirit by unveiling gigantic Christmas decorations installed with Nationwide Platforms' powered access equipment.

Decoration specialists Centre Design, whose three year deal with Nationwide Platforms was announced this autumn, completed work through November at some of the country's largest retail centres, working through the night to help heighten seasonal anticipation.

One of the installations was at the MetroCentre (pictured), where a number of electric machines including two boom lifts and two low level access scissor platforms suited for indoor use were used for the installation of a gigantic light covered, bauble filled reindeer, as well as other large Christmas centrepieces.

The boom lifts provided a reach of more than 15 metres in height, with a maximum outreach of 10 metres that proved ideal when securing the decorations from above. The low level scissor platforms, which were used for installing smaller decorations, provided access to working heights of 5 metres.

High technical standards key to success

Tom Bruce, Business Development Manager for Nationwide Platforms, managed Centre Design's powered access requirements. Speaking after the installation, he said:  With the time constraints involved with the work schedule we knew it was important to provide the perfect machines at each location.

“We take huge pride in the standards of our overall service provision, we invest in the right type of machines for these contracts and that pays off for our customers when they can complete their work safely, effectively and on time.”

Stuart Lee, Logistics Manager for Centre Design, commented on the completion of the MetroCentre installation, saying: “We knew for a job of this calibre, like the installation jobs we complete in shopping centres throughout the UK, that high technical standards in the equipment we used would help us reach our targets.

“Nationwide Platforms provided us with a tailored project management team who understood our requirements and immersed themselves into the project; offering the best solution to our specific work at height challenges with this application.”

Nationwide Platforms will be supplying Centre Design with powered access platforms for approximately 60 shopping centres around the UK this Christmas, including Bluewater in London, Meadowhall in Sheffield and Silverburn in Glasgow.
